Can You Really Share Your Xbox Game Pass With Friends and Family?

Can You Really Share Your Xbox Game Pass With Friends and Family?

If you’re an Xbox gamer, you may have heard the Xbox Game Pass and thought to yourself Hey, that seems like a really good deal! Then you might have realized it costs $10/month, and even with all of the amazing games that are included with the service, you’re not sure if it’s worth it. Well, your answer might be changing soon because a leak suggests that the platform will soon let you share your subscription with friends and family members!

What is the Xbox Game Pass?

Xbox Game Pass is a monthly service from Microsoft where you can play a number of different Xbox One games for one monthly fee. If you are lucky enough to get on the Friends and Family Beta, Xbox Game Pass will allow you to share with friends or family.

On the Friends and Family Beta, you will be able to share your Xbox Game Pass library with up to four other people. I’ll take some time to explain how this works and whether or not it’s worth getting in the beta!

How Much Does it Cost?

Don’t you hate it when you love a game and your friend doesn’t, but they can’t seem to stop talking about it? Now you have the power to share Xbox Game Pass with friends and family. Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family is not yet officially announced, but there are signs that the ability is coming soon.

Do I get to choose which games I play on my own console, or does my friend have access to my library too?

Does your friend share your Xbox game pass? Not quite. However, you can share it with friends and family members (assuming they also have an Xbox Game Pass). Unfortunately, this won’t allow them to play games on your console. Instead, the idea is that they could have access to the Game Pass library while playing on their own console.

It’s a novel concept to try out if you think you might want to share Game Pass with a few people- but again, remember that it still only gives them access to the games, and not the entire console itself.

Where do my downloaded games go if I cancel my subscription?

Xbox Game Pass lets you play over 100 great Xbox One and Xbox 360 games-on the go, on your TV, or in your living room. As a Member, you’ll get unlimited access to over 100 games on any Xbox One family member device or PC!

It’s possible that any games downloaded as part of an active Xbox Game Pass subscription may be carried forward after the subscription is canceled. Microsoft provides six months of access for downloaded titles with its subscription services, and though some indications point to a shared library as an option, we’re still waiting for final details on what this means.

What happens when someone else plays a game on my account (for example, during a family sharing period)?

A Microsoft spokesperson had this to say: Xbox Game Pass Friends and Family is a new feature where Xbox Game Pass members can share their account with friends and family, who also have Xbox Live accounts. With an active Xbox Game Pass subscription, you can use your Xbox Game Pass benefit to subscribe to and play titles available in the catalog.

What other restrictions are there when sharing an Xbox Live Gold account with someone else?

It seems like sharing your Xbox Game Pass with friends and family is possible for people who want to purchase the Xbox Live Gold membership, but there are some restrictions. First of all, you would have to share with a player who has the same console as you because the account needs to be activated on the same console.

But what if the other person has a different console such as an Xbox One or PlayStation 4? It’s too early to say if that’s possible because Microsoft is still figuring it out according to this video.

Second, it’s unlikely that you can share games downloaded from Game Pass when sharing your account because games from Game Pass are streamed so it requires streaming access from that console which means both accounts need to have streaming rights.

How do I set up a shared family gamer profile on my console – can only an adult set this up, or will all kids be able to use this when they are old enough?

To set up a shared family gamer profile, you will need the Xbox One console with an Xbox Game Pass subscription. You’ll then need to create an Adult and Child profiles for your console.

Once done, you can make your account shareable with your friends and family by going to Settings > Accounts > Access my account on their Xbox One console. Finally, they would just need to go back to Settings and make sure they select Yes when prompted to Share my library and digital games.
