Discord Finally Bans Pro-Trump Server ‘The Donald’
Discord, the popular chat app aimed at gamers, has finally banned one of its most popular servers—one dedicated to supporters of President Donald Trump. The Donald was founded in 2016 by two moderators from another server, Circlebroke2, a well-known far-right community on the app with over 200,000 members. It has since grown to about 150,000 users. The server has been highly controversial within the app and its community because of its rules which ban what are considered normie topics such as TV and sports news.
What is The Donald
Discord has decided to ban The Donald, a server that has been linked to the alt-right group. Discord, a voice and text chat app for gamers and businesses, announced on Monday in an email it was shutting down several accounts that were found to be sharing inappropriate content. The email did not specifically mention
‘The Donald’ but many of its members came from this server. For example, Nicole Beattie who was arrested for assault at Charlottesville (a rally for ‘Unite the Right), posted on Facebook, Discord is finally banning servers like mine from servers, how very sad hehe. This all started when they created a ‘/pol/acks’ room where they went around insulting people such as Mexican politicians.
Why it was banned
An offshoot of Reddit, The Donald was an unofficial Discord server that served as a hub for discussion and coordination around Trump’s candidacy.
Its two main rules were to respect the god-emperor Donald J. Trump and keep it political with an emphasis on shitposting. The chat room had over 32,000 members as of December 9th, 2017. Due to reports from multiple sources that came out on January 2nd, 2018, The Great Siege was finally raided by admins on January 3rd.
What to do if you were part of the server
Discord has finally banned their pro-Trump server ‘The Donald.’ These servers gave members of the alt-right community a place to congregate and talk about Trump, with the chats from these servers being leaked into videos. Members of The Donald were said to use racist and xenophobic language while conversing with other people in the group.
Discord permanently closed the server due to a violation of its terms of service in December 2018, but no users had any idea what was going on until last Friday when they saw an email saying that they couldn’t log in anymore.
How this affects other communities
Discord has finally banned the pro-Trump server ‘The Donald’ after users who are affiliated with neo-Nazi ideologies became members. The company told CNN Business that the alt-right server violated its terms of service, which says that we do not permit harassment, threatening messages,
or violent language in any channel. Even though Trump has been known to make discriminatory comments about black people and people of other races, these servers will not be able to use his name or likeness for content on the app.
While many servers often ban people who join based on a certain race or sexual orientation, they will not be able to ban people because of their political beliefs. It is well known that members from The_Donald discord have stated that they are not there to harass or threaten anyone but instead, just discuss Trump and political issues with one another.
Some may question why Discord would then remove an entire server if there is no problem with it in its entirety.
Even though Trump has been known to make discriminatory comments about black people and people of other races, these servers will not be able to use his name or likeness for content on the app – Third Paragraph: There are many racist views spread throughout different servers throughout Discord, even those which do not mention President Trump specifically by name.
How To Encourage People To Join Other Servers
After The Donald went on an infomercial for Amazon products and a host of others violated the TOS, Discord finally took action. In response to getting kicked off the server after server,
The Meme Team has begun recruiting people to start their servers. Discord is trying to focus on providing safe spaces for its user base and The Meme Team wants you to come to join them where your opinion will be protected from censorship.
