If you’re in the mood for Japanese cuisine, you know how hard it can be to find restaurants that serve it well. When most people think of Japanese food, they usually imagine sushi rolls and teriyaki chicken or noodles. But there are so many other types of dishes that fall into the Japanese category, many of which don’t get enough attention from mainstream Japanese Cuisine restaurants because of their cultural and culinary specificity.
Sushi

All are made with fresh ingredients and prepared in a Japanese Cuisine flavorful fashion. Whether you are looking for something light or hearty, there is something on the menu for everyone.
Sashimi
Aoki Pan Asian restaurant is the perfect place to enjoy a taste of Japan. The menu has a wide variety, with everything from sushi and sashimi to bento boxes. I loved all the fresh fish, but their lobster rolls are Japanese Cuisine what blew me away. They have a good selection of vegetarian items, too!
Yakitori
Aoki Pan Asian restaurant is one of the best Asian restaurants in New York City. It’s a cozy, intimate setting where chefs enjoy preparing the perfect art of Japanese cuisine. The ambiance is incredible and the food is delicious. Yakitori, which means grilled chicken on skewers, is one of their most popular items. They also offer specialty Japanese Cuisine sushi rolls and traditional dishes like udon noodles and tempura vegetables.
Tempura

Aoki Pan is a small, intimate restaurant with a friendly staff. The restaurant offers a wide selection of traditional and modern Japanese cuisine, including tempura. Tempura is battered and deep-fried Japanese Cuisine vegetables or seafood. It’s served as an appetizer or main dish.
I ordered the Vegetable Tempura with rice and miso soup to start my meal. The vegetables in the tempura were lightly battered, giving it just the right amount of crunch without being too heavy or soggy. The batter was light and crispy but not greasy, which made this appetizer much more enjoyable than other restaurants that offer fried food as an appetizer on their menu.
Ramen

There’s nothing better than slurping a hot bowl of ramen noodles on a cold day. At the new Aoki Pan Asian Restaurant, you can enjoy one of Japan’s most popular dishes with a side of sushi and another authentic fare.
Aoki Pan is located in the heart of downtown Honolulu, just blocks away from the International Market Place and Aloha Tower Marketplace. The restaurant has two main dining rooms, Japanese Cuisine each themed after different aspects of Japanese culture: an indoor seating area that resembles an izakaya (a traditional Japanese pub), and an outdoor patio that feels like a kappo-style restaurant (where dishes are prepared with ingredients directly sourced from local farms).
Soba

At the restaurant, there is no fusion menu. Everything they serve is authentic and made with care. I ordered the Chasoba, which is buckwheat noodles mixed with vegetables and served in a soy sauce broth. The noodles had a chewy texture and were perfectly cooked to be tender but not overcooked.
The soup was flavorful without being too salty or oily, and it had just enough saltiness to be satisfying but not so much that it overwhelmed my palate. It was perfect for slurping up noodle by Japanese Cuisine noodle after dipping them in the soy sauce broth. The bowl also came with a small dish of pickled ginger and radish that helped cleanse my palate between bites of noodles.
Udon

Aoki Pan Asian Restaurant is a perfect place to visit for a delicious meal. They offer udon and other Japanese fare, with dishes such as tempura, teriyaki, and more. Their portions are generous and Japanese Cuisine their prices are reasonable. The restaurant is clean and the staff is friendly–they’re sure to make you feel at home!
Miso soup

A typical starter dish is miso soup. Miso soup is a very popular, traditional meal in Japan. It is made from a combination of kombu (kelp), soybeans, and katsuobushi (dried, smoked bonito flakes). The soup has a salty taste and it usually contains other ingredients such as tofu, green onion, or wakame seaweed. Miso soup has many health benefits including being high in protein, an excellent source of vitamin B12 and can be used to help prevent heart disease or anemia.
Donburi

Aoki Pan Asian Restaurant is a hidden gem in downtown Hayward. It offers an array of cuisines, including Thai, Vietnamese, and Japanese. I recommend the donburi; it’s not only delicious but also a great deal. For $6.95 you get your choice of meat served on top of rice with either soup or salad and miso soup. The prices are reasonable and the service is fast and friendly! The food is always consistent and delicious, so if you’re in the mood for something other than sushi this is worth trying out!
Japanese dessert

Traditionally, Japanese desserts are served with tea or coffee. However, a favorite modern dessert is Mochi, which is usually made from rice flour. Other traditional desserts include Anmitsu and Kuzumochi. In addition to the great variety of desserts, many snacks can be eaten as an ending to a meal such as Takoyaki and Okonomiyaki.
About Japanese Cuisine
As well as being served with tea or coffee, many desserts are also served with fruit. This is true for some traditional desserts like Anmitsu and Takuan. Other traditional desserts include Kuzumochi, Wappa, and Kuwa Mochi. There’s a good selection of Western desserts on offer too so don’t feel like you have to stick to traditional offerings if you don’t want to. Why not try a slice of Key Lime Pie or Chocolate Mud Cake?
